This museum is located on Boulevard Haussmann, which was in 1868, a place to be. Edouard André, heir of a Protestant banking family, bought a plot on which to build a mansion. The architectural project was given to Henri Parent according to his taste and experience of traditional architecture. In 6 years only, he completed a vast and beautiful building giving the fact that the architect wanted to surpass himself in the design. Right after the opening of the residence, parisians were stunned by such a magnificent place. It was even the subject of an article in the very trendy magazine «L’illustration» at the time.
Furthermore, this residence remains spectacular from the outside but also from the inside. Indeed, this is a story of a couple mixing love with collections. Edouard André and his wife, artist Nélie Jacquemart, devoted their entire lives to collecting works of art. This marriage was to be crucial to the creation of the museum, and today we can admire the interior design as well as the paintings and other exhibitions held many times a year. As a paradise, this museum remains a jewel of parisien art de vivre.
